We received a federal grant which (in part) provides funding for extended
hours (HOORAY! We're very excited!). Specifically, the library will be
open for 2 hours after school Mon.-Thurs., as well as 2 hours on Saturday.
Does your library have a similar program? I am looking for advice in the
following areas:

Who gets to attend? All students or do you have a set number of spaces?
Do you get parental permission in advance?
Is it structured or unstructured time?
Ideas for Saturday programs: which ones have been most successful?
How do you handle students who don't get picked up in time?
Did you send home a survey in advance to get parental input? If so, what
types of questions did you ask?

I'm sure there are many more questions I'll have, but these are the ones
that come to mind off-hand. A bit of information about our school: we are a
k-8 school with 450 students in an urban area. We have a significant
percentage of students on free/reduced lunch, and most take either public
transportation or the school bus.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I know it's a chaotic time!
