The chewing or not chewing of gum has been on issue at our middle school for a few
years. Most teachers don't want the kids to chew, the school rule is no gum, but
some teachers allow it and even chew gum themselves and even give it out as
rewards. I have been fairly successful at keeping it out of the library in the
past. I use the carpet as an excuse but am not sure I want to fight it this year.
I would like to hear what others have to say. Is it really an issue with carpets?
I mean it doesn't actually fall out of their mouths does it? I personally do not
like to see the students chew gum. But to allow it if you do not see it doesn't
really work either as I can spot it a mile away so then I seem like the gum police.
I look forward to hearing how this all works at your schools. Thanks for your
time.
