Dear Wise Ones, I have a few questions regarding inventory procedures: How long do you usually take to do inventory (1 week, 2, etc?) Do you have classes while you are doing inventory? If so, what do they do while you're scanning? Do you still check out books while doing inventory? If not, how close to the end of school do you stop checkout? I am asking because last year I stopped checkout 2 weeks before the end of school and did not take classes (we're on a fixed schedule, special areas provide a planning period for classroom teachers) the last two weeks. I got a lot of complaints when I did this, even though according to the library assistant and other special area teachers, this is what had been done for the 4 years previous (last year was my first year). Now I'm being told not to close and that my administrators do not remember what was done the years previous to my employment - except that the librarian who retired in 2001 would stay an extra week in the summer to do inventory. I have been told that not closing would help with "PR" for the library. Please advise. Thanks in advance. I will post a hit if anyone is interested.
