Thank you for the wonderful suggestions - the list is now in my principal's hands - I'm glad I do not have to make the decision! How about Jerry Pallotta, Tedd Arnold, or Jim Aylesworth? Jim lives in Chicago, Tedd is in Elmira, NY and Jerry is in the northeast (NJ, maybe?). All 3 are excellent speakers/presenters. Good luck! Jack Gantos would be a great choice, if you could afford him. And he's written books for that whole range of grades. Gordon Korman would also be a good choice, and he's also written books for a wide range of age groups. He would also cost you less money to bring in, if that's a consideration. At your level, my favorite author would be Chris Van Allsburg. I went to a list of Connecticut authors, and of everyone on the list, I would want Mary Pope Osborne to come visit my school. She writes such a variety of both fiction and non-fiction books for a wide age range (about 5 - 13), and seems to really enjoy school visits. What about Suzy Kline www.suzykline.com or Rooster Morris www.axlegalench.com?
