Hi All, Carol Simpson's editorial is very timely, urgent even, and thought provoking. Her final sentences especially ring true: "This is an invaluable opportunity for the profession. If we don’t snatch this chance, the technology folks will, and we will have sealed the fate of librarians as dinosaurs who refused to move with the times." Unfortunately as Carol asserts, the above is already happening. Is anyone familiar with the work of Robert Marzano of Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL)? He is a scholar and has been advocating for a common set of national K-12 standards for some time now. It's telling; their web site includes standards for everything, including life skills, BUT information literacy. I plan to write the board members and promote/request they add IP2. Think of how much more powerful a statement we'll make if we all make an effort to request that info literacy be included as a category?
