My original request was for suggestions on converting slides to digital images. I had several requests for a hit, and a number of people who generously shared their wisdom. Thanks to all who replied! Here are the responses I received: 1. I bought the CanoScan 4400F for converting slides to jpeg and it worked great! 2. My parents converted a lot of slides with an Epson flatbed scanner with an adapter (came with it) that allows you to scan 4 slides at a time. The software that came with it helps you isolate the 4 slides on the scanner bed. It's a "regular" scanner that can be used for other scanning, as well, and it wasn't too pricey like the dedicated slide scanners. They were very pleased with the results. I think it was under $300. 3. When I decided to digitize my negative/slide collection I purchased a Canon negative scanner, like this one: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategor yid=120&modelid=10242 It works very nicely and comes with all the extra pieces to make scanning as easy as possible. 4. If you don't have a huge quantity of them - would there be a place where you could have the slides printed as photos and then scan the photos to make jpgs of them? Or perhaps you could just request that the photos be put on a CD. It annoys me so much that as far as I can tell, you cannot bring in regular film and request that it be put on a CD and request that NO pictures be printed. But the film companies insist on foisting the prints on you. Annoying. 5. Two years ago I purchased an Epson Perfection 4180 Photo from a regular computer store like Comp USA. It allows me to load 4 slides at a time, scan them in, work with the resolution etc. (to a point) and save them on my hard drive. Of course I can then size the pictures to whatever size I want and print them out or e-mail them or whatever. I have done several hundred slides of family and it works great. 6. We have a couple of Canon CanoScan 3000F scanners that will allow you to scan slides and film negatives and prints and save them as image files.
