Yesterday, being in a parochial school, I was told the enrollment is not high enough next year for the budget to continue my services at this point. The principal wants to go back to the church finance committee in April to argue for more salary money so she doesn't have to let me go. Although other people on the high end of the salary range are also being dismissed, mine is the only one not up to be replaced. It seems the school will have neither a computer teacher or a library program. My position is basically two 3/4 jobs, but I love the challenge. If enrollment increases by 10 students, I can keep my job. Needless to say, after 22 years I am in shock, although I have been concerned for two months since the rumor mill began, and knowing I am on the higher end of the payscale. The affliated church even reimbursed every cent of the tuition I paid to get this position in the first place five years ago. The church is even cutting off part of its investment in its staffing! It is not just losing a job, I am losing a career there, my mission, and my work family. Morale all around is terrible. I'm just glad this is vacation. I am giving myself the weekend to be upset and then Monday, I will begin my job search. I know this is happening all over and I am just a number in that respect. However, we are a SACS/CASI accredited school. I know SACS had a requirement for a certified LMS on the site, but I haven't specifically found that in the new, combined Advanced Ed standards. I searched the archives because I know this conversation happened earlier this year, but I must not have the necessary key words to find the entries I wanted. If you are familiar enough with these standards, would you please respond directly to me? I know this is vacation and I may repost after the 15th. Thanks so much in advance. This list-serve has helped me so much in the last four or so years (since I was assigned to learn about it in my coursework!)
