I have a collegue who has requested the assistance of LM_NETters. She
writes: A friend's 82 year old mother remembers her favorite book from
childhood and my friend would like to buy a copy to surprise her, if she can
figure out what book it is. I said I might know someone who could help...

It is a chapter book, probably an English story. The main character is a
girl about 11 or 12 who is orphaned and goes to live with her uncle. The
back of his house opens into the woods. The story tells a series of
adventures that this girl has in those woods. The title might be "Tangle
Trees" and we figure the copyright to be before 1934 based on the age of my
friend's mother. NOTE: The book is NOT "Tangle Garden: A Story For Girls" by
Elizabeth Janet Gray.
So here is your summer brain teaser. Can anyone tell me the title, author
and publisher? Better yet, any leads as to where to buy a copy?

Can LM_NET solve the riddle??

TIA!
