I believe that high schoolers do appreciate booktalks as much as the younger students. Many of the booktalks on my website are for YA books that I would love to see promoted to teens. You can access them at http://www.nancykeane.com/booktalks In addition, I have a daily podcast that highlights books for kids. Many of these are YA books. This is an easy way to be introduced to new books. The podcasts last about a minute so are easy to fit in. I know that many librarians subscribe for a quick booktalk. The podcasts have also been included in opacs so the kids have a quick booktalk. And some librarians have told me they put a collection onto an ipod and let kids hear a few to help with book selection. I will be teaching an online module for YALSA starting October 1st. The module will concentrate on book promotion with teens with booktalking being a major part of it :-) I hope that those who are interested will think about sharing this experience. Deb Waugh write: Just read Joyce Valenza=92s article on booktalking resources. See <<http://tinyurl.com/2mnd73>http://tinyurl.com/2mnd73> http://tinyurl.com/2mnd73. There seems to be = a dearth of resources for high schools (9 -12). Are we supposed to be booktalking at the high school level? I=92ve never done it much, but if = there are resources out there or if you have ideas that would help me, I=92d = like to know. Thanks! (I=92m thinking these could afford to be posted to the = list, so I=92m not considering this a target.)
