Please feel free to cross-post this anywhere you think school librarians are
"listening."

I heard from the ALA Washington Office yesterday that RIGHT NOW is a crucial time
for getting the SKILLs legislation through Congress and that phone calls to our
senators and representatives are the most effective means of communication for our
message. Emily Sheketoff and Melanie Anderson of the ALA Washington Office are
encouraging school librarians to go to the the Washington Office Legislative Action
Center which provides phone numbers for offices (just search by your zip code) and
talking points for us to use.
It's time for Congress to hear our LOUD voices in support of including school
librarians as highly qualified in NCLB. We don't have to endorse NCLB to be
included in it when students will benefit so greatly from strong school library
programs staffed by highly qualified school library media specialists. The ALA
Washington Office makes it much easier for us to show our support...Just do it! It
matters for kids.

Thanks so much for your action, Sara
