Hello Nancy Stiner,
I think it is absolutely fantastic that you are visiting libraries outside the
country. Experiences outside the United States offer a kind of professional
development that our schools thirst for. I have noticed that some school librarians
tend to be parochial and provincial and we should all fight this inclination. One
way of doing this is to find out and get involved with these organizations:
http://www.iasl-online.org/ http://www.ensil-online.org/ Perhaps there will be
information and contacts here for you concerning libraries in Germany. I would
also HIGHLY recommend attending the Frankfurt Book Fair - it is a phenomenon as it
is the largest book event in the world - it takes place in October. Here are some
video excerpts from last year's event: www.librarymedia.net/fbf.htm. Good luck and
I do hope more and more school librarians / media specialists will follow your
example. Also, do not forget to check and see if part of your trip's expenses are
tax deductable -

Subject: Target: Library Visits-Germany

    Hi,

Just looking for some ideas. I would like to visit school
libraries in Germany later this fall. I'm
thinking probably during November and/or the first part of December.
Any suggestions about
school libraries that would be good to visit? I would be most
interested in schools located in the
northern part of Germany though accommodations for travel could
certainly be made.

Thank-you,--
