Sure, BUT it takes a smidge longer. You type in their name, grab your mouse and
hit the find patron button, (because if you just hit enter, it will ALWAYS do a
book search first; if you have a book in your collection with that name in the
record it will pull that up. So then you have to go back, type in the name again
and hit the find patron button. Then looking through the list that comes up, which
can be as short as the one name you needed, or every kid with that name will come
up. Then you click the name you want and you are finally ready to check out their
books. First versions of Destiny you had to use the * if you wanted to truncate
the name, Gustafson, j had to have a star or it wouldn't find the name. Now I
believe it will find it without the star.

If you use their ID number, you type that in, hit enter and their screen pops up
ready to scan books to check out. No extra navigating.

Since I do not do the query from our attendance program to Destiny, I'm not sure
but, don't you need the ID number to update your students locations? We use first
period for location 1 so we can run over due notices. At the elementary level you
definitely use that to show which class they belong too.

BUT ALSO, you use the ID number; when you enter your new pictures each year they
will drop in like magic. Picture companies use the student ID number to organize
the pictures on the disk they send for the attendance programs. Which we then use
for Destiny. We have about 600 staff and students to update pictures for, I would
not like to do that by hand.

You can also require the students ID badges to have the barcode on them, just scan
that, up pops their record and you are set to checkout. Our students know their
numbers, they use it in the cafeteria, the library and to sign into a computer.
