If you have been wanting to scan those old slide or pictures for digital use and
just don't have the time to devote to it, here's a solution:

Popular Photography's current issue contains an impressive article about a fairly
new company called "Scancafé" (www.scancafé.com). You mail your slides, photos, or
negatives to the company, and their staff scans them at high resolution and cleans
them digitally... for as little as 19˘ per scan. As soon as the scans are
finished, you are notified by e-mail and can view the results on the company's web
site. Another nice feature is that you pay only for the scans you want! The
originals are mailed back to you in snail mail, along with a CD of the scans choose
to pay for.

Popular Photography's testimonial about the company's excellent service and results
is echoed by the many testimonials on ScanCafé's web site. It is certainly an
attractive alternative for anyone who has gone through the drudgery of scanning
individual pictures and slides... a very time-consuming process.

I'm sorting through old slides this evenng and plan to send a batch to ScanCafé for
scanning. I'm hoping to use the holiday break to finally assemble that family
album that I never seem to have time to create because of the daunting task of
scanning all the pictures and slides!
