I do the Rebecca Caudill program here in Illinois with my 4-8 graders. I always read all the books first so I can better tell the kids about them. This year "East" by Edith Pattou was on the list. It is a 500 page book about a girl who travels the world on the back of a bear. Now, I don't like fantasy too much, so I put this very long book off until last. Well, let me tell you. It was one of my very favorites off the list. It is based on a Norwegian folk tale. The first 250 pages reminded me of Beauty and the Beast, one of my favorite fairy tales. Then it went on from there. I recommended it to one of my 7th grade boys (not a reader by nature, but, you know, AR) and he rushed through it, and wanted to know what to read next. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. As to what I'm reading now. After spending all fall getting through the Rebecca Caudill books, I am now free to read whatever trashy romance my husband has given me from Dollar General. I love it. I like reading the kids' books, but I'm always glad when I have time to read what I want to read. I also like hearing what others are reading. I get many ideas of what to read next from this list.Janet Perry, Prek-12 LibrarianCerro Gordo CUSD 100, Cerro Gordo, ILperrybros@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Put your friends on the big screen with Windows Vista® + Windows Live™. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/shop/specialoffers.mspx?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_CPC_MediaCtr_bigscreen_102007 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
