I'm mid-policy so I have to ask some questions to the "experts" - (ex - has
been, spurt - a short burst) Hee Hee!!!

1) 1st year teacher requests that we order a book set.... not sure if this
teacher would be one to continue here and that this book set would ever be
used again....don't want to seem unwilling to 'help', but yet am looking at
the long-term.....

2) If the said book set is of questionable nature... but I've not read the
book... knowing what's happened in the past with a required book put in to
question, .. who should make the decision on if this book is bought as a
required reading book set? The librarian, the principal, high ups...???

The book - 'Crank' by Ellen Hopkins.. The review talks about sex and
drugs.... yes, this book is for health class, but.... it would be 'required
reading'... if any of you have read this book personally, and could give
some insight?!?!?

3) Not wanting to give the 'powers that be' the power over such decisions...
AND not wanting to open myself up to a strict 'must pass one person's
opinion' policy.... AND yet not wanting that decision to be one that can get
me in a lawsuit...

Do you have separate policies for selection in the library vs. selection for
a class set which would be required reading??? Yes, this money would come
out of our library budget.

Your humble (expert) opinion would be??????

Thanks -
