I am reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara
Kingsolver.  The family spends a year eating only what grows near to their
home, raising some of their own food and working with neighbors and other
farmers for the rest.  It has fascinating and horrific information regarding
food, American food culture (what food culture?  McDonald's?) and what is
takes to create the food we eat.  For example, it takes 9 energy calories to
produce and ship one food calorie in America.
