Having one laptop per student and teacher has created a whole new world for the
library --- the work has increased and the teaching has doubled. There is so much
more that I can do with laptops. My teaching has become renewed. This morning, for
example I am doing a Religion 10 grade class (Holidays projects) several times -
This has meant creating a PowerPoint on databases -- and once again teaching call
numbers and searching for books. But now, I can use visuals. Found some great
Kwanzaa pix on Flickr that I am using. We all have interactive white boards so this
creates excitement as well - I can move forward and backwards with my knuckle on
the screen. I have found it creates an exciting learning experience. The students
will then spread out in the library and using laptops - and the books - work on the
assignment for the week. Having laptops also means that I can go to the classroom
to do this assignment if needed - the entire building becomes part of the library.
I will also place my Power Point online so students can access it at home.
On another note, it has also created a quieter library during other periods as most
students are doing work on their laptops (hopefully - I don't monitor it).

I would love to hear from librarians where there is one laptop per child in their
school. How has this impacted the library? Has this changed your role as a
collaborator and facilitator of information retrieval?
