Dear Washington State LM_Net Librarians,

Our new technology coordinator has added a couple of new security measures
to our district network because of a state audit done in 2006. One of the
security measures is to lock computers after 30 minutes of non-use (e.g.,
keyboard use or moving the mouse). His rational is the state has mandated
this change, and he is just following the audit's directions.

Teachers in my building are unhappy about the change. In addition, this
wreaks havoc on the circulation computer because multiple staff members use
the computer throughout the day, so when the computer locks you have to get
the person who logged onto the computer in the morning to unlock the
computer for you.

1st question: Has your district had to implement this security measure in
the last couple of years?

2nd question: If so, how did your district handle implementing this measure
for teachers?

3rd question: If so, did your district set up an alternative security
measure for your circulation computer, and/or computers which are shared by
multiple staff members?

Thanks for your help on these three questions. I'll post a hit of all the
replies I receive from this post.
