I happened to be in our Main Office yesterday morning when an irate parent called regarding Postsecret by Frank Warren. He claimed that it had been assigned as required reading by our health teacher. In a telephone conversation last night, the health teacher explained that it was optional reading, among over 100 that I had book talked for a book report and that, when the daughter came to her 6 weeks ago saying that she was uncomfortable with the book, the teacher told her to pick another book, which she did. Apparently that placated the father as far as the health teacher is concerned, but is "not going to let this go," threatening to go to the media, etc., if the book is not removed from the library. I want to be prepared for the challenge. I purchased it base on a number of factors, including having been on Follett's 2007 Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers (as part of my collection development plan to beef up my high/low, reluctant reader collection). Has anyone else faced a challenge to Postsecret that may already have a file to defend it. Paul *********************** Paul D. They are subversive. You think they're just sitting there at the desk, all quiet and everything. They're like plotting the revolution, man. I wouldn't mess with them."
