Several people asked for a hit. Here it is:

1. Do you have different levels of filtering in your district (i.e.
student computers have more blocking than teacher/staff computers or
different levels of students have access to different sites)?

-No, we do not.
-no set up by computers, but rather by logins... students logins
have certain accesses, teachers other, and librarians other, and
administration other
- Unfortunately the levels are the same.
-YES i DO
-Yes, teachers have access to more things than students have.
-No, the filter is the same on every computer throughout the system.
-No, all computers are blocked equally!?
-all computers have the same blocks
-Not currently, though we may be heading that way

2. If not, can you verify that teachers and students have access to
the same web sites?

-No
-n/a
-See #1
-(No answer)
-(No answer)
-Students and teachers are limited to the same websites.
-All computers in the district are filtered the same way except a few
that the techs use.
--I can check my computer and then check the ones out on the floor
-As far as I know they do

3. If a site is blocked and a teacher wants to use it or wants the
students to use, what is the process for getting that site unblocked?

-Appealing to the Admin Center, and the answer is No 95% of the time
-talk to librarian, who will add it to an "allow" list
- Email the Technology Supervisor with the site's URL, why the teacher
wants it unblocked, and theamount of time it should be unblocked (a day,
2 days,a week).
-FILTERING SYSTEM THAT LETS THEM REQUEST TO HAVE A SITE UNBLOCKED.
FACULTY AND STAFF JUTS PUT IN THE EMAIL ADDRESS
WITH STUDENTS THEY HAVE TO USE THEIR SCHOOL EMAIL ADDRESS AND PUT IN A
REASON --(OTHER THAN THIS IS STUPID) AND I WILL
RESPOND THEY COME DIRECTLY TO ME AND IF I AM OUT OF THE OFFICE I HAVE
TRAINED SOMEONE ON MY STAFF ON THE CRITERIA -
FOR KIDS -- IT IS WAIT FOR ME - AND FOR FACULTY AND STAFF - IF IT LOOKS
LEGIT -- FINE - IF NOT CONTACT THE SUPT.. ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME IT IS
MISSPELLINGS
-Teachers submit a tech request to have the site unblocked.
-We have to submit a service request to the tech dept. justifying our
need.
-Send an email to out district tech director. He has the authority to
 block/unblock sites.
-We have to send an e-mail to the IT dept which is located at central
office
-We use Lightspeed which has a link on the blocked notice to submit it
for review. We can also email those in charge of this.

4. Who has the ability to unblock a web site in your district?

-The tech people who work for the district at the admin center. It was
different in my small rural school I left to come here.
-Librarians, and tech people
-The tech department only
-ME -- AND ONE PERSON ON MY STAFF
-Only the tech guys.
-Only our tech. support staff.
-See previous answer. If he has any question, a committee of teacher
 librarians can offer their advice.
-Only the IT staff
-The technology director and the designated tech staff person

5. How long approximately does it take for a site to get unblocked in
your district?

-Not applicable
- a few minutes, if we do it correctly. <g>
-Depends upon the time of day, if the tech guys are in the office or at
one of the schools; it can be anywhere from 1 hour to 1 day.
-USUALLY A MATTER OF MINUTES -- UNLESS SOMETHING IS GOING ON
-Depends on how busy the tech guys are.
-Depending on their mood and workload, anywhere from 15 minutes to a
year.
-Anywhere from a few minutes to half-a-day.
-It depends but, usually at least a day or more
-Too often it is too long;

6. What type of filter do you use?
-Two Trees by Shelter belt
-i-gear
-WebSense
-LIGHTSPEED --LOVE IT - LOVE IT I CHANGED FILTERS THREE TIMES (I AM A
LIBRARIAN -- SO THE OTHERS DROVE ME CRAZY)
- Don't know.
-Websense Enterprise
-Lightspeed
-our filter is provided by the state of CT and it is an N2H2 product
-Lightspeed

7. Specifically, does your district block blogs, music sites, You
Tube?

-Yes, all of the above including wikis, nings, etc. so I can't learn
web 2.0 technologies.
-yes
-Yes to all
-YOUTUBE, MYSPACE FOR ALL - BLOGS NOT EDUCATIONAL FOR TEACHERS MUSIC
SITES - SOME ARE BLOCKED - SOME NOT MOST ARE PUT INTO A CATEGORY THAT
DOES NOT ALLOW THEMTO TAKE UP ALL OF THE BANDWIDTH THE SAME FOR RADIO
AND TV
-Other than the usual sexually explicit sites, etc. we block blogs,
personal networking sites, YouTube.
-Our district blocks outside email, blogs, mp3, games, streaming video
(except United Streaming), and anything that needs to be downloaded or
installed.
-No, thankfully. We do block Facebook, etc.
- It blocks some blogs but, not others. I still haven't figured out the
criteria for blocking certain blogs. It makes no sense. It does block
music sites but , not lyric sites and it does block Youtube.
-Blocks You Tube, My Space, Facebook; some blogs, some music sites,
many forums.....
