That's a hoot....When I am in bookstores and I overhear people shyly looking for help finding something, I jump right in to help too....one of the perks of the job, I believe! Elizabeth Woods, Librarian Pulaski Elementary School Pulaski, NY 13142 ewoods@pacs.cnyric.org >>> Donnette Mickelson <coreys@CHIBARDUN.NET> 12/19/2007 10:18 AM >>> Okay so I am in Borders last night picking up some books for school and some Christmas gifts and I guess it's the librarian in me, but I am listening to what people are looking for. Here are a couple of the conversations. Couple #1 -"The Golden Compass, I wonder what that is?" "It's a movie. The churches are protesting it because it is controversial." "Oh, never heard of it." Couple #2 "I wonder if they have The kite runner on DVD? I have to step in and say it has not been released on DVD yet. "Wasn't there another one? "Yes, it's called night of a thousand suns and it's right over there." "Have you read it? Is it any good?" "Yes, they are both very well written." "Thanks." Couple #3 " I would like to find Little Women and the Black Stallion but I don't know where to look because I don't know how they have things arranged here." "Let's just look around." In my browsing I come across Little Women and tell them that I am sorry to eavesdrop but here is the book that they are looking for. "It's so thick and there is more than one kind." I continue shopping and find Black Stallion so I offer that to them. "This is great. How do you find everything?" "I guess it's because I'm a librarian and I am used to helping people find books." "Thank you, we were so lucky to find a librarian doing her Christmas shopping" I think-Yes you were.
