(Cross-posted to LM_Net, AASL Forum and SIGMS lists. Sorry.)

Hi folks,

One of our Minnesota legislative planks this year reads:

MLA/MEMO supports legislation requiring all students have the regular
services of a certified school library media specialist throughout the
school day who can build age and developmentally appropriate collections,
teach information and technology literacy, and promote voluntary free
reading throughout the school.

Our lobbyist now need to draft the language of an actual bill. Would any of
you be able to share language from your stateıs bills that require
librarians in schools? (I have Kentuckyıs law.)

Also, I have a chart from Nancy Everhartıs book Controversial Issues in
School Librarianship from 2002 that has a state by state list of mandates.
Does anyone know if there has been a more current study done?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Happy holidays!

Doug (MEMO Legislative Chair)
