Yep, I too will "tag" items in the catalog so students and teachers can find exactly what they are looking for. I would tell faculty "if you remember something as "the big red book"...I'll add that to the subject notes so we can find it!". Pure catalogers get the shakes when I say this. Dewey and LC put like materials together. The catalog gets the patron in the right area with the call number. The "tags" help them find exactly what they need. Language evolves. Tagging (folksonomy) tied with the catalog numbers help patrons find information- and that's why I'm here. -- Kate Stirk, Librarian North Metro Technical College; Acworth, GA, USA 17 years a Media Specialist in Central Florida KateStirk@comcast.net NMTC Library http://www.northmetrotech.edu/library.asp View from the Library (BLOG) http://northmetrotechlibraryatacworth.blogspot.com NMTC Library Policies and Procedures http://nmtclibrary.pbwiki.com/ Web sites collected for NMTC programs http://del.icio.us/NMTC_Librarian -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
