I just got through IM with both a public and an academic library which
makes me wonder if there are schools out there using this as a
reference service. Considering that often we run a one-person show, it
doesn't seem likely, but for those of us with larger staffs, it might
be possible.

I realize that IM is often disabled within buildings, so that would be
another technology hurdle to leap as well.

If you use IM, how do you use it and how successful is it?
