If you set your web quest up correctly - not only do they find thier informtion but
you can create higher thinking questions( Bloom's taxomony) for the children to
response to - I've done this with 3rd graders - Create open ended questions after
finding a closed ended questions. So I think the webquest are a great tool for
students in academic learning in all areas of discipline.

> As originally developed by Bernie Dodge they are sources of inquiry
> based learning for the students. They should not merely be a way to
> have kids regurgitate information. They should be designed to have kids
> gather facts and reach independent conclusions based on those facts.
> For example, there is a web quest that we use on the Lost colony of
> Roanoke. The kids have to gather information on possible reasons on why
> the colony disappeared and then develop their own theory. This is a far
> cry from a state report that regurgitates information about the state
> capital, bird etc. Not to say that there is not a place for teaching
> kids how to find information, but true web quests should take them one
> step farther-based on what you know about the geography of the united
> States, create a mythical state, place it somewhere in the country,
> list the states bordering it, the geographic features, climate etc. You
> would not have aq state bordered by Georgia and Florida with 100 inches
> of snow per year.
