Use the flashlight to:

* search for mysteries (in fiction or nonfiction books)
* explore caves or mazes made in the library--- or discover
spelunking (either the word or the activity) through the use of your
dictionary and the DDC
* learn how to send Morse code to one another--- pair up teams and
give them the alphabet in Morse Code to learn how to signal a simple
phrase---- see if anyone can guess what is being sent
* signal to make-believe UFO's (ships at sea, spies across the
street, or to re-enact the beginning of the Revolutionary
War---"reader's theater" with one student showing the signal from the
Old North Church--- "one if by land, two if by sea"....)
* Twinkle, Twinkle little star (singing "light" songs)
* Create "syncronized lighting" with a favorite well-known song
(everyone has a part in the song and shines their light at a specific
beat or in a rhythm)
* Tell ghost stories....around a make-believe camp fire in the library!
* Learn how to create "hand shadow" puppets on the wall / screen.
Write a script and let the best shadow hand puppeteers perform while
others shine the lights!
* Examine the "internal organs" of the flashlight...what makes it work?
* Make scary faces (shining the lights under the chin)--- scariest
face wins a prize!
* Become "fire flies / lightning bugs" and flicker around the library
--- read summer stories and poems about fire flies then ask-- what
makes them "light"? Find out!
