Attention librarians, library staff, students and anyone interested in providing
library related services to teens:
Don't miss the biggest library conference in the nation! March 2nd is the deadline
for early bird registration for the American Library Association (ALA) Annual
Conference June 21-27 in Washington DC. For the best rates, be sure to register by
March 2. For information and registration go to www.ala.org/annual.

YALSA will have over 30 programs and events designed to help librarians and
library workers serve the teens in their communities. You can view YALSA's
complete list of programs and events from here:
http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/annual.htm

Do you want to attend the conference, but are unable to commit funds and/or time to
an entire week? Then the YALSA Pre-Conferences may be right for you. Individuals
can purchase a ticket for and participate in the pre-conferences without
registering for the ALA Annual Conference. "The Sins of Young Adult Literature" is
a full day event that will feature YA authors, publishing representatives,
reviewers and seasoned librarians. It will focus on controversial themes (those
seven deadly sins) in books for teens and will provide tips and tools for dealing
with challenges to books. Lunch is included in this event. For your colleagues who
serve teens, but who are new or who may not have had any formal training in working
with youth, we also have a half day pre-conference called "A Beginner's Guide to
Teens and Libraries." Registration for these events is handled through the regular
ALA Annual Conference registration form, accessible at www.ala.org/annual. If you
have questions about the pre-conferences, please contact Nichole Gilbert at
1.800.545.2433 x4387 or ngilbert@ala.org.

I hope you will join us in Washington DC to help us celebrate YALSA’s 50th
anniversary with many special events and activities! Act now for the best rates
and to make sure you find an appropriate hotel room. Space is filling up fast.

Best regards,
Judy T Nelson, YALSA President
