I feel I must put my 2 cents in here about this issue. No where in this
article about librarians, censorship and this book does the writer show any
understanding of school libraries, school culture, or dealing with parents
and administrators. In this day of NCLB , finger pointing and
accountability, parents are just waiting to criticize and complain about
teachers. I think this point has been overlooked. Yes, I am the ultimate
decision maker in my library and yes, I do not like Captain Underpants, so
there will be NONE of these on the shelves, but I am a teacher, a
professional and this is bottom line here. I KNOW my school, the students
and what works there. This book, probably a wonderful story, will not go on
my shelves. I will tell some of my high level readers to go to the public
library to get it.
