I agree that Disney should be given credit for keeping with the storyline of
the book . Unfortunately for those who went to the movie based on the
previews and had not read the book, they were in for a very different story
than was expected. Disney did not do themselves or the book any favors by
presenting the movie as they did ahead of time. My husband, 10 year old son
and I went to see it Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed it more than them because I
had read the book and anticipated what might happen. My son had mixed
emotions about it because of the ending, since Leslie was such an endearing
character, but he appreciated the story that was exclusive of the fantasy
portions. There were many young children in the audience that probably
didn't benefit as much as the older audience members who had read the book
and were better prepared for what the screen would reveal. Viewers may be
cautious the next time Disney comes out with a story based on a book, and
choose to stay home or visit their friendly neighborhood library.
