I just read the NYT editorial and feel it is very pro libraries and
librarians. The editorial states that there are more librarians in favor of
the book but those who find fault with it are getting more attention.

In defense of the New York Times, the paper is a longtime advocate for
libraries and librarians. It annually recognizes librarians, albeit not
school librarians, from around the country with their "Librarian of the Year
Award". I have attended the ceremony and it is quite impressive.

Many have sent letters to the paper and I hope that a balance of views will
be represented. I strongly believe that letting your views known to the
media is important.

I recently posted (before the Lucky controversy) a piece about a New York
City radio station which was airing a commercial which portrayed librarians
as boring. After contacting the station (which is owned by CBS radio) I
received a call from the general manager.

She was open to my concern and will consider possibilities of working with
library organizations to promote libraries. It may have been a guilt offer
but it was an offer.

It is a slow process but it does work.
