Hi, All:

Well, I may be late to the party but I just read _The Higher Power of Lucky_ over
February break. I thought it was charming. The scrotum thing didn't bother me
much. I'm not sure I would have taken very much notice of it if we hadn't had the
uproar. I actually really liked the way Brigitte calmly (appropriately) answers
Lucky's question about what 'scrotum' means.

Do I think my students will read this book? I don't know. I do know that the
cover is all wrong. Maybe that's the problem. The cover illustration makes it
look like a 2nd or 3rd grade kind of story, a la Judy Moody. It's really not for
those kids. The design makes it look younger than the audience that would
appreciate it. I probably wouldn't buy it for my school because we have a limited
budget and it has limited appeal -- at my school. If my students or teachers
request it, I'll spend the money.

My meager 2 cents,
Robin

You know the Lucky issue has gone to far when someone makes a t-shirt about it...or
adds "gate" to the end of the controversy... Check out this site:
