Last chance to register for NYCSLA's first PD institute, "Questioning for
Success," a full-day program on Saturday March 10.

All e-mail registrations must be received by Thursday, March 2.

Institute description:
"Educators often provide all the academic prompts for students . What
would happen if we turned the tables and empowered students to generate
their own questions to guide their learning? This workshop will explore the
benefits of building a culture of inquiry and introduce strategies for
teaching questioning skills to students.
During the workshop, we will explore aspects of questioning educators
need to consider. We will provide experience with several strategies using
practical cross-curricular examples that infuse questioning skills into
content learning, and tools to monitor student progress. A variety of media
and texts will be used to provide experiences with content — fiction,
non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, Internet and video. Participants will be
engaged in trying out each strategy and reflecting on how well it might work
for their students."

Our presenter for "Questioning for Success" will be Carol Koechlin,
co-author of Building Your Own Information-Literate School, InfoTasks for
Successful Learning , and their newest publication QTasks: How to Empower
Students to Ask Questions and Care about their Answers . The institute will
be held at the Seward Park Campus Schools building on the Lower East Side of
Manhattan.

Cost: $20 (NYCSLA members), $40 (non-members), includes breakfast and lunch
