LM_NET Archive



Since this month is proving to be a thought-provoking and 
controversial one, I believe many in our profession are returning to 
the roots of their library instruction. One of the most interesting 
questions I faced during my oral comps nearly 20 years ago revolved 
around the concept of Books Being Dangerous. It may have been phrased 
something like this, "If books can be helpful, can books be dangerous 
and what should you do to protect your patrons?" If we were to update 
this, would we phrase it "If information can be helpful, can it be 
dangerous and should you protect your users?"
