Lubar, David. Flip. New York : Tom Doherty, 2003. $5.99. Sure that he has seen an UFO, Ryan is searching the woods for debris he is sure he saw fall. Taylor and Ryan's friend Ellis find a bunch of shiny silver disks. While playing with a disk Ryan finds that by spinning it just right, it will absorb into his skin and he becomes a famous person, with their abilities, knowledge and charisma; addicted to this new found escape from the realities of his life, Ryan "flips" several times a day, confusing the local bully, teachers and friends with his erratic behavior. Studious girl, rowdy and irresponsible boy; twins no less. From that stereotypical opening the book delivers a great story. Recommended 6th and up. Jean R.
