Today, as we watch the new 110th Congress being sworn in, we are reminded of the
need for YALSA, its members and library workers nationwide to continue our work on
key legislative issues. There are over 50 new members in the 110th Congress who
need to hear our community’s views on library services to teens and other related
matters. In addition, we need to work with the new leadership to ensure those items
most important to us will be on the agenda.

As you watch the opening session of the new Congress, please consider doing one or
more of the following:
1. Attending (in person or virtually) the National Library Legislative Day, May
1-2. It is your opportunity to influence those members of Congress being sworn in
today by educating them about key issues for libraries and teens.

2. Inviting your Congressperson(s) to attend an event at your library, such as one
for Teen Tech Week or National Library Week.

3. Contacting your Congressperson(s) to inform them about issues you and your teen
patrons facing in your library (consider putting him/her on your newsletter's
mailing list).

If you haven't already, please check out YALSA's Legislative Advocacy Guide online
at http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/profdev/LegAdvocacyGuide.pdf. To learn more about

Thank you for all the work you do to ensure the teens in your community have access
to excellent library services!
