Our library has a reversible story doll that I can't identify, and maybe someone
recognizes it. Although there are no labels, it is beautifully constructed and
looks very professional. On one side there is a a royal man, with black yarn hair,
a black felt mustache, and provocatively slanted eyebrows. He has a gold crown on
his head, no shirt, black felt books, and pants made of fancy golden fabric. This
royal man is back to back with a maiden. She has reddish-brown yarn hair and a
sweet smile and face. Her simple red dress has a wide skirt, and she has a small
flower/berry patterned cloth cap and matching apron that is like a pouch, although
whatever is supposed to fit in that pouch is missing (or maybe missplaced with
other story dolls in our collection). On the reverse, which is accomplished by
flipping the maiden's red skirt, there is only one figure: the same royal man, with
the same face, hair, crown, eyebrows and moustache. But he is wearing a golden
fabric dress w!
 itha wi
de skirt. His shoulders have puff sleeves, there is lace at his wrists and over the
gold dress, he wears a fancy brocade tunic, and a necklace of white pearls with a
red jewel around his neck.
I don't know which story or fairy tale it is supposed to illustrate. Any ideas?
Thanks,
