Hello all: I have a student who recently moved to the U.S. from Australia and she is working on a National History Day project about John Simpson Kirkpatrick (Jack Simpson). Her thesis statement is "Jack Simpson turned a tragic battle of World War I into a triumph by giving Australian soldiers hope." (The theme for National History Day this year is "Triumph and Tragedy in History") Part of the requirements of a National History Day project is to find as many primary resources as you can to help support your argument and that is where we are having some trouble. We have found many good websites on the subject, but none that lead us to primary sources. She read an article that talked about several writers (C.E.W. Bean, a reporter at the time, and more recently, Patsy Adam-Smith, who used letters written by Simpson to his mother to write her book.) Also, the article mentioned Simpson's diaries as well as the diaries of soldiers at Gallipoli. What we're hoping is that we can find the archives in which articles by C.E.W. Bean, those letters used by Adam-Smith or the diaries might reside. Or maybe contact information of someone who could help her in this pursuit of information. Thank you, in advance, for your help with this.
