David and others,
If you or others would like to use Aquabrowser in a "real world" situation, the
Howard County, MD Public Library (between DC and Baltimore) has an
installation.

http://aquabrowser.hclibrary.org/aquabrowser/

Also, (non-OPAC) the visual map is similar to what you see at:
http://www.visualthesaurus.com/

and xrefer.

Aquabrowser also reminds me a bit of the faceted search results you see with
Siderean implementations.

Examples:

http://www.thegateway.org
Example search for the word "astronaut"
http://digbig.com/4qqbb

and NOW with the LII.
http://digbig.com/4qqbc

and Environmental Health News
http://digbig.com/4qqbd

While I UNABLE to speak directly to your question re: Aquabrowser, one thing
I've see in my work is that users DO NOT take advantage of what's available to
them, they just take the first thing they see.

I think what all of these tools offer is of value, the question is will people
use it or will it just confuse them? One thing IMHO is a definite, users have
to want and be open to training from the librarians who are offering these
services.

cheers,
gary
