I'd like to see this as a thread to see how others are applying MLA rules. I would
also like to see what Ann Robinson finally comes up with.

Following is my interpretation of the MLA format.

 1. We include the date in the citation BECAUSE things change so rapidly on the
Internet.
 2. I have the kids go the home page of the webSITE from which they found any
information and simply CITE the home page as the SOURCE.

The RESOURCE they locate and include in their report comes from a particular
SOURCE.

The SOURCE is home webSITE. That is the SOURCE of your information (like the title
of a book or magazine).

the webSITE itself is anything that comes before the .com .edu .org and includes
that extension (.com .org. edu)

 3. If the SITE itself does not exist anymore . . . try to do a google search using
some key terms from the citation and see if it's still in Google cache. DO NOT do
an image search. You are searching for the webSITE. The SOURCE.

Cache : Google keeps all of it's searches stored in a large database for a time.
You must be familiar with this feature if you are teaching/using Internet.

I hope this is helpful to some of you. Meanwhile, I look forward to learning about
others' tricks of the trade.

Subject: bibl. citation for Google image

One of my students found and used a photo of Constantinople in a report, and when
he did his bibliography, the link to the full-sized image (and presumably the
source info) was a dead link. So should he use Google images as his source
citation? Thanks,

 Ann
