Our district allows only one person, per site to upload data onto the
district's Internet server, not myself in my building. This does not prevent
me from managing my own portion of the site. The principal is responsible
for the content, though I do not have to get prior authorization. The
building tech coordinator, which sometimes is the librarian, is responsible
for transferring the data from the school server onto the district server. I
am aware of one building in our district that uses Macromedia Contribute.
This simplifies the process of individuals updating their own pages, and
allowing one person to then update the entire site in one process.

On building internet site is maintained in a specific folder. For those
individuals that wish to have a presence on the web in our building, their
pages are created within the website folder. The tech then can FTP that
folder onto the district website.

One must consider the mayhem possible if unrestricted access were to be
allowed to all district employees wanting the ability to post data to the
district's webserver.

I am very comfortable with our process. It does cause for some delays as we
generally update once a week, but in an emergency, I could put in a special
request. I work hard coordinating with and keeping the building tech happy.

Subject: Re: [LM_NET] TECH: Technology "Obstacles"

I work in a wonderful but very small school, and there is only one
person who is authorized to make changes
to web pages. (This person is overworked and underpaid, of
course.) To get around not having my own district
page which I could easily update from home, I got a free school
fusion page, and had the tech person link to it.
Now I can add links for assignments and research, and even create
quizzes through Quiz Star. Just one small
way to work around difficulties. Hope this helps.
