I have not heard of the winner either. I actually finished Penny From Heaven this weekend for a book review project and thought it was wonderful. I have also read Hattie Big Sky and loved it as well. I think Flotsam was a fantastic choice for the Caldecott medal; I think I may be more intrigued by it than half my students! BUT, where are any kudos for the beloved Edward Tulane? I think Kate DiCamillo deserved some recognition for that wonderful story. Every student I have recommended it to loves it, and I even had a mom send me a note thanking me for recommending it to her daughter, they were both in tears at the end of it. Does anyone else feel that way about it?
