My original post:

A fifth grade teacher at my school came to me with an interesting
problem. It seems that all of the books he has his students reading in
literature circles have death in them--some as a central issue and
others where it is just an incident in the book.

My question for you is do you know any good fifth grade literature
circle books without any death in them?

And the replies I received:

Lunch Money by Clements

Frindle by Clements

A Week in the Woods by Clements

4 Kids in 5E and 1 Crazy Year by Virginia Frances Schwartz

Room 1 by Clements

The Wright 3 by Balliett

Airball by Harkrader

The Penderwicks by Birdsall

Coraline by Gaiman

NOTES OF A LIAR AND HER DOG by Gennifer Choldenko

NO MORE DEAD DOGS by Gordon Korman

The Mulberry Project by Linda Sue Park

City of Ember by DuPrau

Riding Freedom by Ryan

The Kidnappers by Roberts

Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by DiCamillo

Worth by LaFaye

Stranded by Mikaelsen

Edison Mystery by Gutman

Thief Lord by Funke

Thank you to everyone who responded!
