My email to Betty was returned also. Here are some other
recommendations:
The Dune series by Frank Herbert should be acceptable. Also the Ship
Who... series by Anne McCaffrey, as well as her Pegasus series (I
think the first one is To Ride Pegasus). Michael Crichton's
Andromeda Strain and others. Most of these are from a few years ago
(like back when I was in high school!) but I think they are holding
up well.
