Hello all, Thanks to the many of you who sent suggestions for places to buy Asian language books. I have forwarded many of these to the ESL teachers at the school where I'm doing my field experience. Hope these are useful to you! Libby Gorman Master of Science in Library Science Student UNC-Chapel Hill, School of Information and Library Science libby.gorman@gmail.com Places to buy books in foreign languages (specifically Asian languages such as Korean, Chinese, Japanese) [I have added comments in square brackets]: We have used Schoenhof Books for books in French and German. This is their website: http://www.schoenhofs.com/ And what about Amazon's international sites—links at the bottom of their home page show Japan and China among others. [I tried to use the Chinese site and it was in Chinese.] -------- We get many books from CHINA SPROUT. Thay have a nice selection of newer, popular titles like Eragon. -------- I don't have much info about discounts, etc. since I'm a graduate student with no purchasing experience, but Asia for Kids (www.asiaforkids.com) is a publisher/distributor specializing in many hard-to-find languages. -------- We buy a lot of bilingual books for our students. We are elementary. Do a search on Follett's Titlewave, titlewave.com. You can set up an account for free. Do a search using the terms bilingual japanese and see their lists of books. We also use Asia Kids, http://www.afk.com/. -------- I was at ALA Midwinter Exhibits looking for books in Korean for our ELD students, too. I found a vendor named "The Korean Book Center". The email address is Mark@JEWimports.com -------- Look at Chinabooks.com. We just started classes in Mandarin and ordered many books from them, so I can vouch for their service. The Mandarin teacher says they have all kinds of kids' books in fiction, plus all the regular subject areas.
