Hi, folks. My original request: "At the end of January, I'll be teaching an inservice on podcasting to some teachers in my district. The first of the sessions will focus on the "whys," and the second on the "hows." My question to you all is, what do you use podcasts for? If you podcast, is it for instruction, Booktalks,Parent communication..." If you would like to see what I'm sharing at my teacher inservice next week, here's the link: http://squareone.pbwiki.com Click on "podcasting resources" in the Sidebar. I recently attended a "Podcast Institute" sponsored by Apple, and the instructor--knowing I'm from a district that uses Windows, rather than Apple--e-mailed me links to a new, free, web-based app called Mogopop. The link is: http://www.mogopop.com/ It isn't a perfect answer to the ease with which enhanced podcasts can be created on the Apple platform, largely because it requires the download of an alternate media manager. Mogopop content can't be downloaded straight to iTunes. Not yet, anyway. But it seems promising, and of course--it's free. Below are the responses I received from LM_Net. My sincere thanks for all the LM_Net help I received getting ready for this inservice. This video podcast, produced by the NUAMPS division at Northwestern University. It is designed to be a take-along, on a video iPod, as one takes a a self-guided walking tour of the Prairie Avenue historic district in Chicago. It included archival photos of each lot along the street, some depicting homes still standing and others no longer extant. Other background information tells about the famous residents of this illustrious street. It does not require a video iPod, and can be played on any computer that uses the .m4v format. (I play it on my Mac) While this has been produced by college students, it is a very good example of what can be done by students with the podcasting software that is easily available. http://nuamps.at.northwestern.edu/screenroom/projects.html __________________ Hi! I am intrigued with podcasting, but we haven't had anyone use it in the classroom setting; as soon as I get settled in, I would like to do some book talks with video. I would love to know if there is an effective way to do vodcasting in Windows. I've used Audacity to create mp3's (at which point does a voice recording become a podcast? Does it have to be posted on itunes? a website?), but haven't posted any. I'm trying to convince our school that we need one little Apple because it is so much easier for podcasts/vodcasts. I would love to know if anyone else has found anything as user-friendly on Windows. _____________________ Good afternoon - I am slowly introducing podcasting to our district. Thus far, it is extracurricular, but I hope to have it integrated into curriculum in the future. This is what I have so far: 1. Middle School News Team - I collect information from teachers on what is happening in their classrooms (1-2 minutes). I write a script, recruit students to record, edit, convert, and post the podcast on our website and have the local radio station play it. We have only done two so far. 2. High school teaching staff - a teacher records a monthly staff development tip about 2-3 minutes long. I edit it, add an intro and trailer, and will post it on our website. 3. Technology tip of the month - we will record, edit, and post this on our website for students and staff. __________________ Almost everything you might need is at http://www.shambles.net/podcasting/ You can also see the PowerPoint of a workshop I recently ran on Podcasting in Singapore at http://icase2006.blogspot.com/ Feel free to use .... if you did then it would be nice if you could just mention Shambles. ___________ Please feel free to use my video booktalk podcast in your inservice. http://rss.mac.com/ibpaulkim/iWeb/bookwink/Podcast/rss.xml It can also be found on iTunes under the name Bookwink.
