We received a letter today that The Phoenix, the Naples High School literature and
arts magazine, has won the rank of "Excellent" from the National Council of
Teachers of English for 2006. I believe this is our first submission for
evaluation. It is quite an achievement. We were the only school, public or private,
in southwest Florida to receive an award. There were almost 500 submissions
nationally!

You can guess who the editor, sponsor, printer and collator, was of this one! Our
library supplied the $1,000 in ink to print the journal!)

But what a wonderful achievement! We will do it again next year, hoping for a
Superior ranking!

Our kids ranged from senior Laureate High Diploma kids, to Emotionally Handicapped
9th graders. What a wonderful experience. Each of the students still attending
Naples High will receive a letter from the principal commending them on their
contribution and urging them to submit yet a better piece of writing for this
years' Phoenix.

What fun!

Now I have enabled writers and graphic artists!
