Each year kindergarten teachers at my school have a handful of students
who are already independent readers. Wanting to provide them with more
"advanced" supplemental reading instruction, they always request that I
begin those students in AR (at this school, the program has always been
administered by the librarian rather than the classroom teachers). It is
my understanding that AR is not really designed for kindergarten and I
have encountered some K children who are intimidated with both the Star
Reading Test and the whole quizzing routine.
Do any of you have or know of other software packages that would be
better in providing supplemental reading instruction/support for
kindergarten children? I'd willingly look into purchasing an alternative
to AR just for those kindergarteners if I knew where to begin. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. I will post a hit. Thanks!
