Thanks for all who shared ideas for Elementary Science Fiction books. Some of these I had heard of, but many are new to me and I appreciate all of the suggestions. I felt there were enough people who requested a “hit” so here it is. Thanks again! I also have the Akiko series, but they are more suitable for the 3rd grade and beyond. I would love to know about any other titles you receive. Greenburg, J.C. Andrew lost: On the dog. When introducing sci fi, I use Weisner's June 29, 1999, Scieszka's Baloney; Marilyn Sadler's Alistair books (and the Alien Invasion, in Outer Space). They are all fun to read aloud, but if you are looking for beginning readers/independent readers, I’m stuck. Weisner's June 29th comes to mind as a picture book. And Sadler's Alistair in Outer Space - of particular note becuase Alistair is concerned about returning to Earth to return his library books on time. We are doing a genre each month for our yearlong reading program. I've included a link to the list that I provide for the students to look at the public library, but I have others in my collection. I'll try to send you a list in the near future. http://www.websterschools.org/classrooms/state_library/science_books.html How about the Commander Toad Series by Jane Yolen (They're so funny!) I also love *Company's Coming* (Yorinks). and *Alistair In Outer Space(*Sadler). Here is a link to a list of SCI Fi picture books (which includes some nonfiction as well) someone put together on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Picture-Books-that-this-World/lm/1288X2B07XP25/ref=cm_lm_dtpa_fvlm_cfa_2/104-7138920-3858316 I hope the link works for you! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
