I just finished reading all of the 2007 Newberry award winners. This
included "The Higher Power of Lucky," "Penny from Heaven," "Hattie Big
Sky" and "Rules." Although I enjoyed them all I found it interesting
that all of the books had strong willed female protagonists. All of the
females in these stories with the exception of Catherine in "Rules" were
either missing one or both parents.

All four of the books were excellent reads with well developed story
lines. I did think, however, that all four of these books would appeal
primarily to YA female readers. I thought it would have been a little
more balanced to have a book selected that might also appeal to YA male
readers. What do you all think?

Just thoughts.....

Subject: A PH.D in Library Science

Hello and happy Monday.
I would like to know if you know of any good schools that Offer a PH.D
in
library science. I'm thinking of going back to school and getting a
PH.D.
Also, do most schools offer some kind of assistance finacially for
Ph.D's. I
would only be able to attend part time, so I get the imporession that
part
timers don't get any financial assitance.

Thanks and enjoy your summer. The weather here in Chicago is fantastic.
Here, in Chicago, the summers are short and we really treasure this time
of
year.
