LM_NET Archive

Mary and other LM_Netters who may be interested,

Many of our new LM_Netters are overwhelmed at the volume of mail. Here's an
easy way to utilize the "best" of the postings without setting up a special
inbox, etc. Go to the Archives at: http://www.eduref.org/lm_net/archive/
Now, add it to your bookmarks or list of "Favorites." I'd suggest moving it
to the top of the list where you can access it most easily.

Now, to change your LM_NET status, e-mail to: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
In the message write: SET LM_NET NOMAIL
Allow for confirmation. You will still be a member but will NOT receive
postings (or you can write: SET LM_NET DIGEST if you want a bulk mailing of
posts several times a day).

Now, whenever you want to look over the postings, you can simply go to the
archives at http://www.eduref.org/lm_net/archive/, click whether you want to
view by Date or by Thread (topic), or even view postings from previous
months. From this point you could also search the archives for any topic.

I visit the archives daily, quickly look over the subject lines and select
postings I want to read or respond to. This is a real time-saver for me.
It's very easy to respond to just the poster by clicking their email address
at the beginning of the message and (automatically) opening an email
document. Most programs can do this. If not, copy and past their address
into an email document. Be careful NOT to click on the LM_NET address or
your reply will be sent to the entire list (unless you wish to post to
everyone!). Be sure to type in an appropriate message in the subject line. I
copied and pasted the subject line from your original post in my subject
area.

A very important reminder for everyone is that at the end of EVERY message
posted to LM_NET is the pertinent information about accessing the archive,
setting to NO MAIL, changing to Digest, etc.

Another important reminder is to set up a Signature file so that each time
you open a new email, your signature appears automatically at the bottom. In
addition to your name, it should also have your title, school site, city and
state, and your email address. This information is often very useful for
queuing responders as to appropriate replies. If you are not in the U.S.
please include your country!

From the LM_NET information site:

I have enjoyed reading all the mail from the listserv. This is the first
time I have used it in all my years of being a librarian. The email just
comes
in so fast. My question to all librarians in public libraries and in
schools,
when do you have time to read all this mail, how often do you use it and
what information do you find the most useful?
